The Midland Cavalier Club aims to provide up-to-date health information for all Cavalier owners and information can also be seen on Parent (www.thecavalierclub.co.uk) and Regional web sites.

Cavaliers are generally a happy breed of dog, however, as with many other breeds, there are genetic health problems.
 

The main health problems in the breed are:

1) Mitral Valve Disease of the heart (MVD)
2) Syringomyelia (SM)
3) Eye – Hereditary Cataract & Multi-focal Retinal Dysplasia (MRD)    

All Cavalier Clubs actively encourages and raises large amounts of funds for its members to test their Cavaliers for Heart, Syringomyelia and MRD by organising many health clinics around the country, at dog shows and health screening days at specialised veterinary clinics (details can be found on regional club websites).

The impression should not be given that all Cavaliers have these health conditions, indeed many Cavaliers lead long and happy lives well into their teens.
